WILLIAM BUCKLEY
March 14, 1924 ~ November 17, 2018

William Buckley was born March 14, 1924 to Annie and John Buckley in Brockton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1941 and attended the University of Massachusetts on basketball and golf scholarships.

His college education was interrupted by World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy and received medals for his Asiatic Pacific Service and also was the recipient of two stars for participation in the Philippine Liberation.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy he returned to college and graduated with a Business Administration Degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1950.

While at college he met Margo Queipo, who was teaching elementary school in Amherst, Mass. They were married on November 20, 1948 in Westfield, Mass.

Bill worked six years for Libby McNeil and Libby as a food salesman in New England.

In 1956, the Buckley family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma to work for John Griffin, owner of Griffin Grocery Company. He was employed by Griffin's for years and retired as President in 1986. For 25 years he was a Director of Griffin Grocery Co. and Griffin Television Inc.

He also was President of MAKO, Inc., the 7 Eleven Convenience Store franchisor in Oklahoma.

He was very active in various national food associations and served as President of the "Food Merchandisers Educational Council" for four years and also served on Board of Directors of the National American Wholesale Grocers Association.

After retiring from Griffin, he and his wife and family owned three local businesses, The Okie Ice Co,, Buckley Janitorial Supply Co. and Buckley Muskogee Fence Co.

He served as a Director for 25 years for Citizens National Bank of Muskogee and was on the advisory Board of the Bank of Oklahoma for five years. He served as secretary of the Muskogee Urban Renewal Association, when it was active.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and served on the Trust and Finance Committees for many years.

Bill's hobbies were golfing and boating.

Bill took great pride in teaching the game of golf to his three sons.

Margo and Bill were happily married for 62 years and were blessed with four children, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by the loss of his wife, Margo and two sons, John Buckley and Tom Buckley; his parents, a brother, John Buckley; a sister, Margaret Whalen and another sister, Edna Bedford.

He is survived by two children; daughter, Jane O'Mell and her husband Steve of Marianna, Arkansas; son, Robert Buckley and wife Missy of Muskogee and seven grandchildren, Buckley O'Mell (fiancé Susie Shinn) of Little Rock, Arkansas, Mark O'Mell (Kristin) of Marianna, Arkansas Jennifer Marchbanks (Brett) of Oklahoma City, Kelly Belkoff (Cody) of Spokane, Washington, Addye Burnell (Brandon) of Auburn, Alabama, Chris Buckley (fiancé Christina Ingram) and Camilla Grone (Brennen) of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter-in-law, Rene Buckley and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Interment will follow in Greenhill Cemetery.
