Ryan August Sims, a veteran of the Iraq war, was killed when he lost control of his car on U.S. Highway 61, south of Welton, Iowa. He was a promising amateur heavyweight boxer, and was set to compete in a Golden Gloves tournament in Des Moines, Iowa the following weekend. His father was also serving in Iraq, and returned to Davenport for the funeral.
