He was the son of William C Raynor and Susanna Goldsmith Wisner. He and his wife Emily settled in Mason, Michigan in about 1840. Mr. Rayner accumulated much land in and around Mason. There is a state historical marker at the house he built in 1840. There is a street and a park in Mason named after him. Another of Mr. Rayner's former houses currently (2007) serves as the Mason Historical Museum. At his death, he was one of the wealthiest men and heaviest land owners in the state of Michigan.
