Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served in the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 6th Pennsylvania Reserves. He led his regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, where it fought with the rest of Colonel William McCandless's brigade in the Wheatfield and Valley of Death. Six soldiers in his regiment were awarded the Medal of Honor during the Battle. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant conduct at the battles of the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House and Bethesda Church, Virginia". Today, his name is inscribed on the 6th Pennsylvania Reserve Monument, which is located north of Ayres Avenue and Wheatfield Road in the Gettysburg National Military Park.

GENERAL WELLINGTON H. ENT, a gallant officer of the Pennsylvania Reserves during the war, died yesterday at his home in Bloomsburg, Columbia county, Pennsylvania. In 1868 Mr. Ent was a candidate of the Democratic party for Surveyor General of this State. He was beaten by Jacob M. Campbell.
