PS A Braxton County Man has been charged with murder after West Virginia State Police say he called 911 and told them he shot his wife.

Troopers say on Monday, November 19, 2018, at 8:50 PM, Braxton 911 received a call from John Homer Carroll Jr, of Sutton, who said that he had shot his wife approximately 30 minutes prior to calling 911 and wanted Law Enforcement to respond.

Braxton 911 also received a call from Carroll’s son, who told them he heard gunshots coming from his father’s residence. West Virginia State Police officers along with Braxton County Sheriff Deputies responded and observed Carroll walking towards the officers, on Bug Ridge Road, carrying a rifle. Troopers say Carroll was ordered to drop his weapon and show his hands, at which time he fired multiple shots at the officers. The responding officer’s returned fire and Carroll retreated into a ditch. Police say Carroll finally surrendered his rifle and a pistol by throwing them into the road.
Carroll was then apprehended without further incident.

After being processed and while being booked into the Central Regional Jail, the medical staff observed a wound on Carroll’s side. The wound appeared to be a grazing gunshot wound. Carroll was then transported to the Braxton County Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and cleared for incarceration.

Carroll has been charged with 2nd Degree murder and lodged in the Central Regional Jail with a grand jury indictment in process. (Dec 2018)
