BURIED AT: SECTION W SITE 36Ray Crum, age 84, of Greeneville, died late Thursday evening at U.T. Medical Center in Knoxville.

Mr. Crum, a Greene County native, was a son of the late Denver and Lockie Cornwell Crum. Ray served in the United States Army; he was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.

He worked at Magnavox, before becoming an Emergency Medical Technician and went to work for the Greene County-Greeneville Emergency Medical Services. In 1986, Crum was named the part-time director of the Emergency Management Agency while continuing his full-time job with EMS. In 1991, he was named EMA's full-time director and continued in that capacity until his retirement on December 31, 1999. In 1997, Ray became Medical Investigator (Coroner) and continued in that post until his retirement June 30, 2008.

Mr. Crum was active in the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad as a volunteer and served two terms as captain.

He was a member of First Church of God, Beersheba Masonic Lodge No. 449, and the Greeneville Shrine Club. He served on the Greene County Board of Equalization.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: David and Louise Crum; two grandchildren and their spouses: Steven and Tara Huff, Hannah and Kalum Hensley; four great-grandchildren: Denver Huff, Ella Kate Huff, Kaden Hensley, and Hattie Hensley; one sister: Mary Ruth Crum; one brother: Robert Crum; sister-in-law: Ann Crum; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years: Aileen Blazer Crum; daughter: Pamela Huff; sister: Gladys Cutshall; brother: Bruce Crum.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 and 5 – 7 p.m. on Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 7 o’clock in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Stephen Aiken officiating.
Military graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Andrew Johnson National Cemetery with the Greene County Honor Guard conveying honors. Family and friends are asked to meet at Doughty-Stevens at 9:15 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
