Patricia (Patti) J Chester
On Thursday, September 27th, Patricia (Patti) J Chester passed away at the age of 83 after a long battle with Parkinson's. She will be greatly missed by her 5 children: Larry Chester (Tonya), Rick Chester (Lisa), Tammy Gillis (Johnny), Debbie Emmons (David) and Mike Chester (Patti) as well as by her 3 brothers, Jim, Ted and Ronnie Merthe and 2 sisters, Gail Johnson and Sherry Barboza, 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Patti moved to Daytona Beach, from Elyria, Ohio with her family in 1944, when her parents, Wendell and Kay Merthe opened Kay's Restaurant, a mainstay on Main Street. At 16 she married Don Chester, (her former husband). She graduated from Seabreeze High School in 1954. Together they had 8 children, Don Jr, Danny and Dawn passed as children. For a time she helped Don run Busy Bee Car Wash, she later worked in the Christmas shop at Kay's and then the Christian Book Nook. She enjoyed spending summers in the Georgia Mountains, at Lake Rabun. Serving the Lord and others was her passion in life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 11 am at Haigh- Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Ct. Ormond Beach. Memorial Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation.
