Preston was a son of Jacob and Minerva Grant Bond, born in Lewis Co. He married Nancy Rebecca Davisson on 21 October 1880. He worked as a teamster in the oil industry and later focused on farming. He was widowed in 1934. On 21 November 1935, at age 76, he married Mrs. Alta P. Thorp Westfall, age 59, widow of E. M. Westfall. Alta died 29 March 1950 in Smithburg. Preston continued to live in Doddridge Co., dying at the age of 101.
