Martin Edward Potter, 85, of Ozawkie, formerly of rural Leavenworth, died Saturday, November 17, 2018 at his home in Ozawkie. He was born February 9, 1933 in the Iowa Point Community of Doniphan County, the son of Tressie Edward and Viola Helina Fuhrman Potter. He was a 1952 graduate of Robinson High School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving 1956 to 1958 and serving in the U.S. Army reserves 1958 to 1962. Mr. Potter served as a Correctional Officer at Lansing Correctional Facility, retiring in December, 1993 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Leavenworth.
He was married to Elizabeth Diana “Diane” Manthe on June 4, 1967 in Leavenworth, she survives at the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Linda (Robert) and Sheri (Andrew), two brothers, Howard and Harry, and five grandchildren, Casey, Richard, Charles, Nicolas and Amber.
Funeral Service will be 10:30 AM, Monday, November 26, 2018 at Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa. Burial with military honors will be at Leavenworth V.A. National Cemetery. Memorials to Rock Creek Township Fire Dept. c/o Barnett Family Funeral Home, Oskaloosa, KS.
