Jean Hope (Nylander) Gates, 93 of Boylston, passed away in the comfort of her home on Saturday, October 27, 2018 with her loving family at her bedside.

Jean was predeceased by her husband of sixty-seven years, Richard D. Gates. She is survived by two daughters, Dawn C. Jacobs and her husband, Bill of Melrose, and Kimberly J. Kubert of Boylston; daughter-in-law, Jean Gates of Leicester; eight grandchildren, Richard, III, Debra, Jason, Michele, Daniel, Jill, Adam, and Kaelyn; twelve great grandchildren; a great great-grandson, Baby Bob; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Richard D. Gates, Jr., in 1999, and Robert D. Gates, in October 2016. She is also survived by a brother, Donald Lindof of Goffstown, NH. Jean was born in Waltham, the daughter of the late, Harry C. and Helen (Carlson) Nylander.

She graduated from Belmont High School. She attended Burdett College in Boston and worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. She moved to Boylston shortly after she was married in 1949. In her later years, Jean worked at the former Lincoln Nursing Home in Worcester.

Jean was an active member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Scandinavian Athletic Club in Shrewsbury and the Boylston Senior Citizens.
