Worcester- Kathleen Gearin,78, died on November 5, 2018 surrounded by her loving family, after a courageous 52-day battle with lung cancer.

Kathleen was born in Worcester on June 9, 1940, the daughter of the late Daniel Gearin and Catherine Powers. She worked her entire career at New England Telephone Company, now Verizon. Kathy was a member of Pioneers of America and a devoted communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle. She enjoyed traveling throughout her life and many special memories were made at her second home in Mashpee.

Kathy is survived by her devoted sister and best friend, Mary Moran and her husband, Donald of Worcester; her nieces and nephews who considered Kathy their surrogate mother, Michael, Timothy and MaryKate O'Leary, Erin Shapiro, Brendan and Terrence Moran, Kara Aparo, Colleen Boulette, Donna Boulay, Karen McGrath and Kelly Ventre; several great nieces and nephews, extended family members and friends.

She will be forever missed by her beloved dog, Missy.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents and her siblings, Daniel Gearin, Jr., and Carol O'Leary; a niece, Catherine Phelan and her nephews, Shawn Gearin and Thomas O'Leary.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Switzer and Dr. Brenner and Zoe, the staff at Holy Trinity and the staff of 24N at St. Vincent's Hospital for their compassionate care throughout Kathy's brief illness.

Family and friends are invited to Kathy's Life Celebration on Friday, November 9th from 8:30am until 10:30am at the Callahan, Fay & Caswell Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle St., Worcester, with her funeral Mass to follow at 11:00am at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Kathy to St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding St., Worcester, MA 01603.
