CHILHOWIE, Va. Katherine Olivene Owens Sipes, age 73, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, November 13, 2016, in the Francis Marion Manor, where she was very well taken care of by the nurses and hospice staff. Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, James Sipes, Jr.; her father and mother, Hugh and Bessie Owens; four brothers, Carl, Junior, Charlie, and Weaver Owens; and four sisters, Frances Thomas, Ruth Thomas, Barbara Barnes, and Nancy Palmer. Katherine was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, and will be missed by all. She is survived by her sons, Sam Sipes and Michael Whitaker; two daughters, Ellen Whitaker and Ruth Ann Spiva; one sister, Louise Doss; two brothers, James and Eugene Owens; her caregivers, Sally Price and Melissa Doss, five grandsons, several nieces and nephews to include special niece, Katelyn Doss. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday November 17, 2016, from the Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Chilhowie with Pastor Tim Norris officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral chapel.
