Long-time Jackson area resident, Robert C. Grider III, 71, died Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. Bob was born in Pampa, Texas, October 27, 1938.
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at St. James' Episcopal Church. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Oak Ridge Hall. Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland is assisting the family with arrangements.
He was the son of R.C. Grider and Mildred Grider. Bob graduated from Pampa High School in 1957; he attended Texas Tech University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity and graduated with a B.A. in 1962. He married the former Estella Dona Dockery of Byram on December 27, 1966. Bob then attended Mississippi College School of Law and graduated cum laude with a J.D. in 1975.
He was admitted to the Mississippi Bar Association and was a member until his death. Bob worked at AmSouth Bank (formerly Deposit Guaranty) from 1979 until his retirement in 2004. During this time he also taught real estate courses for numerous years at Hinds Community College. After retiring he was associated with Rawlings & MacInnis as well as McKay Lawler in Madison. He was a communicant of St James' Episcopal Church of Jackson.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, R.C. and Mildred Grider of Pampa, Texas.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dona Dockery Grider of Jackson; sister, Sylvia Ann Grider PhD, of Bryan, Texas, Professor Emeritus of Texas A & M University; son, Robert C. Grider, IV, of Nashville, TN; daughter, Dendy Grider Magee and her husband, Richard M. Magee of Jackson; grandchildren, Davis Marshall Magee, and Elizabeth Anne Magee of Jackson; along with several nieces and nephews and numerous dear friends.
Special thanks to the staff and doctors of Jackson Oncology Associates, especially Dr. Bobby Graham, the doctors, nurses, and staff of 5 South St Dominic's Hospital, and the entire staff of Hospice Ministries. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James' Episcopal Church, 3921 Oakridge Dr., Jackson MS, 39216 or Hospice Ministries, 450 Town Center Boulevard, Ridgeland MS, 39157.
