Jimmy Dan Robbins, 78, of the Robbins Chapel community died Saturday afternoon, November 17, 2018 at his home with his family by his side. Born April 18, 1940, he was the son of the late John Melvin and Bertha Mae Stapleton Robbins. He was a proud coal miner, beginning his career with Westmoreland Coal Company and later working at several mines in Virginia and Kentucky. He retired as a coal mining superintendent. Dan was a life member of the Lee County Rescue Squad, a founding member of the Lee County HAM Radio Club, and a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Greg Robbins; brothers, Evert, Cecil, Coy, Howard, Bill, Bob, Richard, infants Elmer, Hershel and Charles; sisters, Pearl Robbins and Reba Robbins Barnett.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Kay Martin Robbins of the home; sons, Anthony Robbins (Brandy) of Pennington Gap, Donnie Robbins (Rhonda) of Robbins Chapel; Special nephew Christopher Robbins of Kingsport; Grandaughters Nikki Robbins (Travis) of Sugar Run, Alyson Robbins (Adam) of Norton, Megan Farr of Keokee, Abbey Robbins of Roanoke, Lily Robbins of Radford; grandsons Tyler Robbins of Stanford, CA and Abram Robbins of Pennington Gap; great grandchildren Mackenzie and Maddison Moore of Sugar Run; sister Agnes Davis (Paul, Sr.) of Robbins Chapel; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Mullins-Sturgill Funeral Home in Pennington Gap. Funeral Services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel at noon on Wednesday, November 21, with Brother Garry Hood, Rev Layne Pennington and Pastor Paul Davis, Jr. officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Committal will follow at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden.
