David Earl Sikes, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and husband.

David Earl Sikes, 77, who was born in Whiteville, NC, to Oscar D. and Marie P. Sikes, left behind the pain and suffering of many years of mortal life and crossed over into life eternal on November 16, 2018 at Davis Health Care Center. He spent almost all of his life living in Wilmington and was married 54 years to his wife, Saundra.

David was employed at A&P grocery for nine years and Best Products for fifteen years where he was a warehouse manager.

He served in the United States Army, active duty for 2 years with 13 months in Korea and 4 years in Army Reserves.

He became disabled in 1992 with continued declining in health.

Prior to becoming disabled, he was an avid gardener whose yard was a showplace at Christmas and during spring and Azalea Festival, and was on the garden tour at their request in 1987.

David was predeceased by his mother, Marie Penny Sikes; father, Oscar D. Sikes; beloved grandmother, Dora L. Penny; aunts, Mozelle McCabe, Juanita (Terry Bug) Smith; and uncle, Jimmy Penny; as well as beloved pets, Shelba, Weasel, Baby, and Missy.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra H. Sikes of the home; daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) Hollingsworth and husband Terry of Hampstead, NC; grandchildren, Parker and Karson Hollingsworth of Hampstead; sister, Betty Jo Alford and husband Gerald (Jerry) of Wilmington; nephew, Gregory Jordan; great-nephews, Gary Smith of Wilmington, and Eddie McCabe of Wilmington; and like a daughter, Kimberly Faulk and husband Jimmy.

He is also survived by good friends who have supported and assisted family for many years and without whose help and love these years would have been more difficult. They include but are not limited to, Janice Brown of Castle Hayne, NC, Larry and Laura Wilson of Wilmington, Stephen and Dorothy Thornburg of Richmond, IN, and Georgia and Jerry Barnhill of Supply, NC.

The family wishes to thank Brookdale of Wilmington, Davis Health Care, Porters Neck, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the excellent care given our loved one as well as the support and love for our family they gave to us, his family.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel with Pastor Jeff Nichols officiating. The family will receive and welcome visitors and friends beginning at 1:30 pm Tuesday also at the mortuary, prior to the service.
