Josephine Louisa Saxton Staley, 76, died in the Uintah County Hospital October 25, after a short illness.
She was born November 13, 1898 in Upton, Utah to John Soloman and Andres Amelia Johansen Saxton. She married Melvin Eugene Staley September 15, 1914 in Upton. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple December 20, 1917. Mr. Staley died July 31, 1960.
She is a member of the LDS Church, Vernal Firth Ward, and was active in Relief Society. She was the former owner of the Staley Coal Yard and a member of the DUP, Camp Tokawana.
She is survived by a son and three daughters, Robert E., Rangely, Colorado; Mrs. Stewart (Marie) Tanner, Mrs. Tommy (Shirley) Dockery, both of Vernal; and Mrs. Grant (Dorothy) Jorgenson, Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Minnie Greening, Vale, Oregon; Lizzie Rhead, Ogden; and Florence Wilde, Oakley, Utah.
The funeral was held Tuesday in the Vernal Fifth Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park.
