Mrs. Ashley was born July 25, 1896, in Brouillet Creek Township, the daughter of Alonzo and Ellen Parker Coleman. She was married in 1915 to Allen Ashley who died in 1937. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Jean Maxey of Chrisman, Mrs. Faye Evans and Mrs. Norma Jager, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two brothers, Cecil Coleman of St. Bernice, Ind. and Roy Coleman of Paris; and a sister, Mrs. Nannie Householder of Paris. There are five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Logan Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 211, Women of the Moose and the Academy of Friendship, chapter 1107 of Paris. She was preceded in death by a daughter, the late Mrs. Minnie Ellen Lucas, a great-granddaughter, three brothers and two sisters. The family suggests that for those who wish, memorial contributions in Mrs. Ashley's name may be made to the Edgar County chapter of the America Cancer Society (Paris Area Obituaries, Beacon-News, Paris, Illinois, Wed, 06 Sep 1978)

PARIS, Ill.--Judge Grendel F. Bennett, Marshal held a short session of circuit court Friday, granting a divorce to Alta Ashley from Allen Ashley on charges of desertion on a cross bill. Court was recessed until Oct. 25 (news clipping, no source, penciled date 1937)
