Obituary of Mr. G. L. CARR

G. L. Carr was born in Madison, Ohio, Jan. 11, 1846. He was the second child of Peleg and Jane Carr and one of a family of 10 children, 7 boys and 3 girls of which two survive, Miss Ada J. Carr and L.A. Carr both of Los Angeles, California. In his early boyhood days his parents moved to Palmyra, Wisconsin, and later to Ironton, Wisconsin.

Mr. Carr inlisted in Co. F. 35th Wis. Vol. Inf., October 20, 1864, and served one year being honorably discharged at Brownville, Texas, October 19,1865.

He was married March 9, 1881, at Lone Rock, Wisconsin, to Ellen Elizabeth Virginia Brainard who was born in Dinwiddie Co., Virginia, July 15, 1854.

Mrs. Carr and their 4 children, Nira A. Carr of the home, 522 West Santa Fe, Olathe, Kansas; Are E. Carr, Chicago, Illinois; A. R. Carr, 3832 Booth, Kansas City, Kansas, and Mrs. Cora L. Knoche, Chardy Heights Libery, Mo., also 3 grandchildren and one great grand child survive.

Mr. Carr and family moved from Wiscons into Martin City, Mo., in 1900 where he was engaged in the mercantile business for 13 years with the exception of 3 years in which he was engaged in the same business at Raymore,Mo.

He also served as postmaster at Martin City a number of years.

In 1915 he rented his home and went to live with his eldest son Arno R. on the farm until 1924 when he sold his Martin City home and bought the Olathe home where he had lived up to the time of his passing, December 3, age 83 years, 10 months and 22 days.
