Mrs. Lavonia E. Montford, age 89, of Alamo died Saturday November 17, 2018 at Community Hospice of Vidalia after an extended illness.
Mrs. Montford was a native of Telfair County and had resided in Wheeler County for most of her life. She retired as Social Activity Director of Conner Nursing Home of Glenwood with over 25 years of service. She was an avid gardener who loved to plant flowers; she loved to travel; was very active in WMU, and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.

Mrs. Montford is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Gladys McLeroy; and her husband Howard Montford.

Lavonia is survived by three sons, Steve Montford (Pia) of Alamo, Kenneth Montford (Wilma) of Glenwood and Dwight Montford (Sarah) of Vidalia; her daughter, Sandra Harvill (Eddie) of Alamo; her aunt, Betty Hayes of Heflin AL; three nephews, Tommy Jinks of Jacksonville FL, Mike Montford of Hazlehurst, and Gary Montford of Hazlehurst; and her niece, Helen Bible of Heflin AL. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lavonia E. Montford will be held Tuesday November 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Friendship Baptist Church with Reverend Chuck Morgan and Reverend Donny Brown officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Stewart-Rosier Funeral Service Glenwood Chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
