Funeral services for Mr. Danny Farrell Lewis will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Camp Eight Pentecostal Church, Otis, with Sister Vesta Mangun and Brother Phil Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Hemphill Star Cemetery, Cotile, under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Oakdale.

Mr. Lewis, 70, of Elmer, entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 17, 2018 in his residence with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 18, 1948, in Alexandria, LA, son of Ollie B. Lewis and Effie Ward Lewis Atkins. Danny was a Navy Veteran whom was honorably discharged after serving in Vietnam. He then began working with the City of Alexandria Fire Department helping serve his community and touching the lives of many. He retired after twenty-six years of service as Second Assistant Chief. He later went on to the Rapides Parish Sheriff Department where he served an addition fifteen years of public service and retired as Sergeant.

During his seventy years, Danny focused his love and attention on his wife, family and many friends. With his closest friends, he helped start The Burnt Pine Hunting Club, where he not only enjoyed the camaraderie of family and friends gathering, but where he also started a legacy that continues today. He enjoyed teaching his children, grandchildren, and so many more the joys of running dogs, hunting, and fishing and how to enjoy the finer things found in the great outdoors. In his later years, when he could no longer participate, he found just as much joy in sitting by the fire, reminiscing and watching the younger generations carry on doing the things he loved the most. Danny was a hardworking man with a tender soul. He was a dedicated and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jack Atkins; one brother, Kenneth R. Lewis; infant son, Danny L. Lewis, known to most as “baby Lanny” and many aunts and uncles.

Those left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory are his loving wife of forty-five years, Darlene Norwood Lewis of Elmer; one son, Colin and his Fiancée, Trina Murphy, of Boyce and their children, Summer and Gavin Lewis, John and Erynn Townley and Jacie Logan; one daughter, M. Elizabeth Edge, of Elmer and her children, Logan Edge and Kelcie Glass; great grandchildren, Kassie, Theresa, Mia and Brent and Ashley Johnson and their children, of Otis; mother-in-law, M. Lois White; brother and sisters-in-law, Paul and Tammy Langley, Janice Perry and Mary Jo Lewis and numerous nieces and nephews.
