Douglas E. Owen, 86, died May 6, 2006, at Sebastian River Medical Center in Roseland, Florida. He was born in Stamford, Connecticut, and lived in Barefoot Bay, Florida for 23 years, coming from South Salem, New York. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Before retirement, he worked for Sealtest Dairy for 33 years. He was a member of the Over 60 softball league in Barefoot Bay. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles Stewart Owen and Susan Dorothy (nee Corcoran) Owen. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Edith Adeline (nee Kelly) Owen of Barefoot Bay; daughters, Susan C. Lee of Stamford, Connecticut, Beverly A. Lier of Vero Beach, Florida, Melinda N. "Mindy" Bailey of Pensacola, Florida, and Allison K. Smith of Indianapolis, Indiana; son, Douglas Stuart "Doug" Owen of Morrisville, Vermont; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sister Dorothy Virginia Imhoff of Norwalk, Connecticut; one nephew and one niece.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Micco Fire Department, 301 Barefoot Bay Blvd., Micco, Florida 32976. Services: Services will be private. Arrangements are by the Thomas S. Lowther Funeral Home and Crematory, Vero Beach, Florida.
