Robert Thompson Gartin, 87, died October 10, 2018 in Rockliegh, New Jersey of natural causes. He was buried in the family plot at Morris Hill Cemetery in Boise Idaho. Mr. Gartin was born in Mountain Home, Idaho, the son of William Woodruff Gartin and Mary Thompson Gartin. The family lived in Boise, Idaho during most of his childhood. He attended Boise High School where he was active in the Drama Club., ROTC and in Student activities. He graduated from Boise High School in 1949 on the Roll of Highest Honor. He attended the University of Idaho where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, Blue Key, the Alfa Epsilon Delta Honorary and the Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship Honorary. He was the editor of "BLOT", the campus magazine and was an actor in many school drama productions. Following college, He worked in San Francisco, New York City and Ft. Lee, New Jersey. He was employed as a manager as the Nielson Company for many years. After his retirement as a manager in the Fort Lee Office, he continued to live in New Jersey but made many trips to Idaho to be with his family. He was a long-time member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 2475 in Ft. Lee, New jersey where he had many friends and was known as "Big Tom". He is survived by his brother, William Gartin (Joan), and by cousins James Gartin, James Thompson. Scott Thompson, Jon Thompson, Lee Thompson, Bernard Wright, Elsie Anne Shollenbarger and Ray Shollenbarger Jr. The family wishes to recognize to Lou Marzocchi, Bob's guardian, caregiver and friend and express appreciation for his excellent actions to maintain Bob's quality of life for many years.
