Sgt. Medlin of Pelham, Alabama enlisted in the Marine Corps where he was trained as a sniper and a skilled Marine. After his commitment he moved to Pelham and enrolled in Jefferson State Community College. But Medlin felt compelled to join the military again after the United States invaded Iraq, opting for the Army this time. He arrived in Iraq in October 2006. He put all of his heart into his military service and seemed to prefer the lifestyle over civilian life. During his military career, Medlin obtained several medals, including the Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terror (Service) Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Navy Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and the NATO Medal. Though he died as an Army soldier he always said he wanted to be remembered as a Marine. He was 27.
