Ernie Lee Addington, age 72, Gate City, moved from this earth to his heavenly home November 16, 2018, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Now he is living and seeing the “Glory of the Lord” he often taught of. What a journey it has been.
As a born-again Christian, he served his Saviour faithfully as a member and ordained Deacon of Midway Baptist Church for 50 years. He taught God’s word through working with the youth group, teaching Sunday school and teaching the congregation. In his teachings of God’s word, he often quoted his favorite verse, Psalms 33:4 “For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth”. He was a guitarist and lead singer for the group Midway Harmony.
He retired from Holston Defense Corp. in 1988 and BAE Systems in 2013, for a total of 47 years with Holston Army Ammunition Plant. Ernie also served his country in the Virginia Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed vacationing in the western states, traveling and experiencing this great country of ours.
Born October 21, 1946 to the late Curtis and Violet Addington, he was also preceded in death by his son Matthew Addington, his sister, Michelle Addington and her fiancé Jeff Mann, and sister-in-law Carol McConnell
Left to cherish is memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Helen Addington and son, Gabriel Addington, Gate City, VA; his aunt Betty Herron; brothers-in-law, Gail and Kathy McConnell, Charles and Margaret McConnell, Mike and Debra McConnell; several nieces, nephews, and dear cousins; special daughters by love, Christy and Chad Bailey, Brandan and Joe Looney, April and Jeff Bishop; grandchildren by love, Nate and Wrett Bishop and Wyatt Looney.
A celebration of life will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, November 19, 2018 at Midway Baptist Church, 1403 Midway Road, Gate City. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. George Willis, Jr., and Rev. Marvin Egan officiating. Chris Holder and Journey Home will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Hales Spring Road in the Midway community of Gate City. His nephews, Jonathan, David and Jason McConnell and Friends of Midway Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be George Hall, Mark Marshall, Fred McKamey, J. C. Fraysier, and Freddy Lane.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m., Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
