Florence Ann (Behrens) Caple was born on September 13, 1917 at the family homestead on upper Spring Creek in Pennington County. Her parents and grandparents were pioneers and the homestead is in its sixth generation of family habitation. Florence attended country school and graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1935. She attended Chadron College for one year.

Florence married Robert Caple, of the Folsom area, on November 25, 1936. They lived on Spring Creek, where Florence taught country school until Bob returned from the war. Their eldest son Michael was born in 1942. The family settled in White River in the 1940's. Two more sons, William and Eric were born in 1946 and 1948. Florence was a wife, homemaker, mother, and gardener, fishing, hunting and camping companion to her family and an inspiration to her sons. Florence worked at the Mellette County Bank for many years. She was active in OES for over 50 years and she and Robert were involved in the Shrine and Oriental Consistory for many years. In 1964 the family moved to Huron where Florence worked at Norwest Banks until she and Bob retired to the Hill City area in 1969. One of the greatest joys of their fifty three year marriage was their Shrine Camping Group and their wonderful campmates.

Florence is survived by her sister Theresa Burden and family of Hill City, her sons Mike and his children Missy, Kelly and Kenny of Phoenix, son William of Rapid City and son Eric, wife Carla and sons Ryan and Kevin of Centennial, Colorado, Eileen Caple Fry and family of Des Moines, Iowa, Patta Behrens and family of Hermosa, Marjorie Behrens and family of Wilmington, Delaware and many other relatives and friends.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, William and Flora Belle Behrens, and her brothers Kenneth and Robert Behrens.

Services will be at the Little White Church in Hill City, South Dakota on Friday, April 13 with interment at Mountain View Cemetery, Rapid City.

Arrangements by Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home.
