June 27, 1918, The Courier, Waterloo, IA, p.9.
Mrs. Hannah Probert, a pioneer citizen of Black Hawk county, died at her home, 1240 Burton Avenue, at 7:18 p,m. yesterday [June 27, 1918]. She was born September 24, 1842. The body was removed to the Hileman and Gindt mortuary pending funeral arrangements.

Her death certificate lists her birthdate as September 26, 1842, and reflects that she is buried in Shell Rock, Iowa. The informant was A. L. Probert of 1240 Burton Ave.

Her most likely burial place is Riverside cemetery, Shell Rock, IA., to which this memorial will refer until a more definitive alternate location is discovered. Thanks to Jim P., contributor No. 42051487, who cautions that while other Probert family members are interred in Riverside, including Llewellan's father and at least one brother, he has not found a record for Hannah's husband, Llewellan, at Shell Rock. Likewise, no record has been discovered that his wife, Hannah, is buried here, but the reasons for citation of this cemetery as her location of interment follow.

The obituary of her husband, Llewellan Probert, referred to his arrangements by the Hileman and Gindt mortuary and identified the location of his interment as "Shell Rock," Iowa, but omitted the name of the cemetery . The obituary of Hannah, transcribed above, stated neither the cemetery nor the town in which she was buried, but identified the Hileman and Gindt mortuary as the location of her body pending funeral arrangements. Her death certificate confirms her burial in Shell Rock, Iowa. Instead of leaving the interment location unknown or omitting this memorial altogether, this cemetery is cited as the most likely location of her interment. Perhaps other family members or acquaintances who read this explanation can offer a more definite location.
