Jenny Pun Hing Lok Lee
JUNE 20, 1943 – NOVEMBER 12, 2018

Jenny Pun Hing Lok Lee entered peacefully into eternal rest on November 12, 2018, surrounded by her immediate family. She was born June 20, 1943, in the Faiyun (Huadu) District in Guangzhou, Guangdong. She moved to the Shau Kei Wan district in Hong Kong as a young child with her mother and older brother. While working at a garment factory, she met her future spouse, Johnny. They maintained a long distance romance for five years when Johnny moved to the United States to establish a career there. Meanwhile, Jenny worked at Colgate-Palmolive Company where she was elected Miss Colgate in 1965. Johnny returned to Hong Kong to marry Jenny on January 11, 1966. Shortly thereafter, they returned to Houston, Texas where they opened a small grocery store and raised three children. They worked very hard but found time to frequently get together with friends and relatives. They were active in the Chinese community and maintained their cultural roots by celebrating Chinese holidays, engaging in Chinese community events, preserving customs and making traditional foods.

Jenny loved to travel. She took her young children, Anna at age 5 and Danny at age 18 months, on their first trip to Hong Kong no less. In 1985, she made that same trip with her youngest, Belinda, and even ventured into mainland China. What a brave and modern mother! In subsequent years, she and Johnny travelled to Mexico, made trips to Las Vegas, visited Canada, Disney World and Disneyland, cruised the Caribbean, the Bahamas and Alaska, sailed a transatlantic cruise to Spain and Portugal and made an extended trip to China to see all the cultural sites. Most recently, they traveled to Hong Kong and Guangdong with their three children in April 2018 to visit relatives and pay respects to deceased ancestors. She was so happy to make this trip with her entire family.

Jenny was a fabulous cook. She was excellent at cooking traditional Cantonese fare as well as baking the lightest airiest sponge cake. Good food was important to her and she loved to try new cuisines. She loved to feed her children and grandchildren and her dishes have become family comfort foods.

Johnny and Jenny retired in 2004 and Jenny was busier as a retiree than as a small business owner. She was active with the Chinese singing community as well as the Pearland Senior Center. She often went every day to exercise, socialize and make new friends. She loved crafts, line dancing, Zumba, Sit and Be Fit and the occasional bus trips to the Louisiana casinos.

Most importantly, Jenny was courageous. She showed an extraordinary strength of character with the adversities that she encountered in her life. She was funny, quick witted, disciplined, hard working, and had an incredible moral character. Her family never doubted that whatever she did or decided was for the sake of her family. Her love for family was unconditional. She was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be inexpressibly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Johnny Ming Shing Lee, her children and their spouses, Anna Lee Bouknight (Dan), Danny Lee (Sarah) and Belinda Lee (Gabe Ngo). She had three grandchildren, Emilia, Natalie and Dylan all of whom she loved dearly.

Family visitation will be on November 20, 2018, from 9-10am at Forest Park - Lawndale Funeral Home Grand Chapel 6900 Lawndale St; www.forestparklawndale.com, followed by a life celebration at 10am.
