POPLAR RIDGE - Albert E. Leonard, 74, of Poplar Ridge Road, Poplar Ridge, died Wednesday, July 17, 1985, at Auburn Memorial Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in the Town of Genoa and had resided in the Town of Venice most of his life. He was employed by the Town of Venice Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator for 25 years until his retirement in 1976. Prior to that, he owned and operated a farm in the Town of Venice.

Mr. Leonard was a member of the Ledyard United Methodist Church and a former member of the Scipio Lodge # 110 F.&A.M. of Aurora.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Dean Leonard of Poplar Ridge; two stepchildren; Mrs. Robert (Betty) Townsend and Charles A. Dean, both of Aurora; four brothers, Harry Leonard of Genoa, Stanley Leonard of Locke, Howard Leonard of Tuscon, Ariz., and Wilber Leonard of Watertown; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shakelton Funeral Home in Aurora with the Rev. John Holt, former pastor of the Ledyard United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Groton Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Instant Aid Ambulance Fund, Poplar Ridge, N.Y. 13139.
