Thomas C. Whitten, age 87, of Piney View, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley.

Born on June 7, 1924, at Hinton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wilburn F. Whitten and Mary E. Allen Whitten.

Mr. Whitten was a retired employee of the C&O Railroad where he served as a railroad clerk. He was a member of the Brotherhood of the Railway, Airline, and Steamship Clerks, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII.

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Jean Marie Blosser Whitten; two daughters, Donna Whitten and her husband Mark T. Moore of Charleston, W.Va.; and Sandra Little and her husband Tim Little of Raleigh, N.C.; a son, Thomas A. Whitten of Savannah, Ga.; grandsons, Adam Ormandy and Jacob Ormandy and his wife Tamara; great-grandsons, Jacob Ryan Ormandy and Christian James Ormandy, all of Raleigh, N.C.; a brother, David Whitten and his wife Martha of Murfreesboro, Tenn., are also among his survivors.

Graveside rites and burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley on Saturday, October 29, 2011, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Cecil Smith officiating.
