Charlotte Marie (Goetz, Simons) Rottinghaus passed away November 14, 2018. She was 90 years old, living at West Bridge Care & Rehabilitation in Winterset, IA. Visitation is to be at Illes Sundberg- Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Madrid, IA. on Monday, November 19, 2018, from 4-6 p.m. Mass will be at St. Malacy's Catholic Church in Madrid on Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. Following services the V.F.W. Auxiliary will serve a luncheon at the VFW Hall in Madrid. Burial will take place at the Fontanelle Cemetery at Fontanelle, Iowa.

Charlotte was born July 10, 1928, in Adair County, IA to Eugene and Gertie (Meisenheimer) Goetz. She was the oldest of five. This was always a close-knit family. Living on a farm outside of Fontanelle always meant a lot of hard work for everyone in the family.

She attended country school until the end of her eighth grade and then full four years of high school in Fontanelle, graduating in 1946. Charlotte then attended Creston College in Creston, Iowa, for two summers after her high school graduation, majoring in Education. At the same time, she taught at country school during the school year.

Charlotte went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa for two full years to complete her teaching degree. She taught in rural school at Fontanelle, Bridgewater, Casey and Mingo Community School in Mingo, Iowa, teaching 2nd grade.

Charlotte married Vincent Simons of Dexter, IA on June 1, 1953, at the All Saints Catholic Church in Stuart, IA, after his discharge from the Army in the Korean Conflict.

Five children were born to this union. They farmed, living near Dexter, Penn Center, Panora, Booneville and Fontanelle, Iowa. In January 1960, they moved to Madrid, IA, giving up farming. This marriage was dissolved in 1979. Charlotte worked in Madrid at Federal Prescription, Massey-Ferguson, Madrid Schools in the hot lunch program and a local restaurant until her retirement in 1994, Charlotte worked at the Madrid Home for the Aged, in the dietary and housekeeping departments.

Charlotte married Henry Rottinghaus of Cambridge, Iowa, on September 20, 1994, at the St. Aquinas Catholic Church in Ames, IA. Henry passed away on Sept. 20, 2010. Charlotte then came to Winterset, Iowa, to live closer to her two daughters in May 2014, to live at the nursing home, due to dementia.

Charlotte is survived by daughters Cheryl (John) Gray & Charlene (Robert) Robinson, both of Winterset. Carla (James) Correll of Arvada, Colorad and a son Norman of Madrid, Iowa, grandchildren; Amy (Brian) Kay, Brian McCleary (Aubrey Loffredo), Justin (Amy) Simons, Alicia Simons, Jason (Sarah) Robinson, Rene Robinson (Patrick Pipenhagen), Dr. Erin Robinson (Trent Briney), Amanda Simons, Megan Simons, Kaylee Simons, Alexa Ellis and Kelsey Beaman. great-grandchildren; Allison, Kathleen, Clayton, Rebecca, Piper, Reese, Regan, Rylan, Finn, Braydon, Rayleen, Corbin, Breanna and one on the way, a sister Betty Murphy-Mills of Fontanelle, Iowa, sister-in-law Peggy Goetz of Fontanelle, Iowa, and host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceding her in death was a son Dennis, grandchildren Jacob, Rebecca, Tyler, great¬grandchildren Jordan and Christopher, three brothers; Herbert, Donald and Marvin as well as two sisters-in law, Mildred and Linda, nieces and nephews.

Charlotte was a member of St. Malachy's Catholic Church, VFW Auxiliary, and Legion Auxiliary all in Madrid.

Memorials will be donated later to charities of the children's decision.

The family would like to thank the staff at West Bridge Care and Rehab, Every Step Hospice Team, St. Joseph Catholic Church of Winterset and many family members and friends.
