Justin McCarthy, 99, passed away Oct. 15, 2018 at home in Mountainside, N.J.

He was the beloved husband of the late Lillian Neafsey McCarthy, father of the late Raymond McCarthy, and father-in-law of Lynn Samsky.

Born and raised in East Orange, N.J. and Gillette, N.J., Justin entered officer's training soon after the U.S. joined World War II. He was a paratrooper with the 509 Parachute Infantry Battalion, and fought in campaigns in North Africa, Sicily, Anzio, Southern France and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, Croix de Guerre, and Purple Heart. The Silver Star was awarded for gallantry in action in Italy, where he set a charge, under heavy German fire, to blow up a bridge.

Justin was a manager with Bell Telephone for 30 years. He and Lillian retired to travel, attending paratroop reunions for many years.
