Susan Beatrice Carpenter Howell Mercer, 96, of Gastonia passed away November 11, 2018 at Robin Johnson Hospice House, Dallas North Carolina. She was born September 4, 1922 in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Ephram Franklin Carpenter and Lillian Victoria Dale.
Susan was a member of Dallas Church of God and loved to shop and travel.
She is survived by her son, James Howell (Nancy); daughters, Martha Howell Cooke (Bob), Becky Howell Burr (Raymond) and Brenda Howell Wilson (Bill); sister, Una Louise Carpenter; nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Willie "Bill" James Howell and Foy C. Mercer; sons, Kenneth Howell, Roger Lee Howell and Jerry Eugene Howell; sister, Edna Starnes; brother, Henry Carpenter.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday November 16, 2018, at Dallas Church of God. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park
