Services will at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 16, 2018, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Joyce was born September 9, 1924, in Millsap, Texas. Her parents were Almath Spencer Jones and Pearl Marie. At 5 years old, her family moved to Magic City. As a teenager, she was nominated Queen of Magic City to ride in the Shamrock parade. She graduated from West Texas State University with a teaching degree. She taught home economics at Plemons, Memphis and Dumas. She volunteered with Little League and Girl Scouts.
She married Marion Messer from Memphis, Texas. They owned the Cut Rate Grocery Store in Dumas, Texas for many years.
God has been a large part of her life and always on her mind.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Messer and wife Nita, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Stan Messer and wife Kathy, of McKinney, Texas; a daughter, Nita Hunt and husband Kelly, of Amarillo; six grandchildren, Blake Messer, Brent Messer, Michael Messer, Jennifer Jenkins, Megan Niche, and Faith Scasta; and nine great-grandchildren.
