Jerry Floyd Daniels, 75, of Galesburg, formerly of Oneida, went home to be with our Lord and Savior at 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018, with his family by his side.

He was the youngest child of William Floyd and Laura Mary (Thompson) Daniels. He was born August 1, 1943 in rural Ringo Point, MO. Jerry married his high school sweetheart Nancy L. Cory on October 26, 1962 in Kirksville, MO. He is survived by his wife of 56 years and his two children, Angela (Jon) Zellmann of Oneida and Andrew Jay (Ivannia) Daniels of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Nolan Zellmann of Moorhead, MN, Cari Zellmann of Oneida, Ashley (Cameron) Cummins of Carterville, and Mitchel Daniels of Harrisburg; and one great grandson, Reid Zellmann. He is also survived by one brother, Ivan Daniels, a brother-in-law, Leslie Ellsworth, a sister-in-law, Thelma Daniels all of Novinger, MO; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by one grandson, David Daniel Zellmann, two sisters, Loretta Ellsworth and Doris Braker; a brother, Jim Daniels, a brother-in-law, Melvin Braker, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Daniels.

Jerry was an avid sports lover participating in many sports while in high school and college. He attended college at Northeast Missouri State University, graduating in 1965. After teaching and coaching for four years in Pleasantville, IA, he returned to Northeast Missouri State to obtain his Master’s Degree, majoring in Elementary and Secondary Administration, graduating in August 1970 and moved to Oneida, IL.Jerry belonged to many professional organizations while serving in ROVA/ROWVA School District during his employment from 1970 to 1994. He always enjoyed encouraging children to grow and learn to be good citizens and role models for life.

Jerry served as an Emergency Medical Technician for 10 years and enjoyed serving the ROWVA Community. Jerry enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams for many years. After retirement, he sold American Family Insurance, but missed working with children and became a school bus driver for 13 years. Jerry was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a man deeply shaped by his faith and attended First Baptist Church, Galesburg.

Visitation will be 4:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 19, 2018 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Myers will officiate. Burial will be in Oneida Cemetery, Oneida. Memorials may be may to ROWVA Public Schools Foundation, First Baptist Church, or the Knox County Humane Society.
