OBITUARY
Our Dad, Son, Brother, Uncle, Grandpa and Best Friend passed away November 28, 2009 at the Wasatch Care Center. He was born to Florence and Wallace Moss on December 21, 1950 in Ogden Utah, the oldest of two, with a sister Wendy Moss (Greg) Clarke.
He attended Weber County Schools, graduating in 1969 from Weber High. Mart later graduated from Weber State University and became an extremely talented engineer. Mart served in the U.S. Navy during the Viet Nam conflict. When he returned home, he married Carolynn Thurgood, they were later divorced. He married Sandra Owens, they were later separated. He left a son Shayn and step-daughter Haylee and Grandson Colby.
Marty's hobbies include Hunting, Fishing, The Raider's football, Baseball, Golf, Cars, Motorcycles, Science, Music, and Nascar Races
He worked as a machinist for Williams International (Ogden) until completing his degree then moved upstairs to work as an aerospace engineer. He later worked for Rolls Royce Systems (Park City). Marty then joined the Defense Contracting Management Agency (ATK Thiokol) and began making his contributions to the highlight of his professional career; the Space shuttle and the Ares rocket programs, he worked there until his death. For his diligence he received the highly coveted Silver Snoopy award. His love for education and his desire to mold the young minds of tomorrow, lead our grateful community to repeatedly request that Marty return to guide the young scientists of the future. Marty always enjoyed judging the science fairs and did so as a representative of NASA for grades 05 though 12 and on to the college level. The lives Marty touched have been enumerable; the ways he touched our hearts can never be measured.
Mart was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, and the accepted order of the freemasons. Marty was a very devout Episcopalian, he has served on several Lay Apostolate Ministries as a member of the Vestry and several other positions including an advisory position for the current building project of one of Ogden's oldest churches and historical landmarks.
He held several posts including Worshipful Master with Golden Spike Lodge № 6 of the Free and Accepted Masons. He is a 3° degree Master Mason; 32° Scottish Rite Mason; Guardsmen of the Utah Scotts Guard; Member of the Ogden Scottish Rite Club, Ogden Masonic Library Club and Ogden Shrine Club. A proud Shriner of El Kalah Shrine Temple, He is a Regular Member; Past President of the El Kalah Klunkers Motorized Shrine Unit. A Jester in The Royal Order of Jesters, Court № 49; and served as Chapter Advisor of the Ogden Chapter DeMolay in 2005.
Beginning on Thanksgiving day the most incredible thing happened as Marty fought his last valiant battle with Cancer, members of Marty's church, brothers of the Masonic Temple, El Kalah shrine and Jesters, friends and relatives began arriving and sharing stories of how he had influenced their lives. The love these people showed, the memories they shared, the loss they all felt clearly demonstrated an example of a life well lived. As Marty passed from this life, we lost a very fine gentleman, His selfless generosity and friendship was a very powerful example of what we should all aspire to.
Marty is survived by his son Shayn, his step-daughter Haylee Hennessy, his grandson Colby, his parents Florence and Wallace Moss, his loving sister Wendy (Greg) Clarke, his nephews: Ronald, Jared and Chris Hennessy. Step-children: Mandie (Jim) Openshaw, Jeanette (Daren) Mcfarland, Brent (colleen) Dalton and Tom and Sally Dalton.
