Fannie H. Belek, age 99, of Lithopolis, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at her residence. Born June 11, 1919 in Roanoke, AL to the late John Wyatt and Fannie Ella (Hadley) Heflin. She was a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWII, serving in France after the Invasion and was preparing to deploy from there to the Pacific to tend the wounded in the anticipated invasion of Japan when the war ended.

After the war, she attended Auburn University on the GI Bill and graduated with a bachelor's degree. Initially a nurse in civilian post-war life, she became an elementary school teacher in suburban Columbus, Ohio, retiring from Asbury Elementary, part of the Groveport Madison School District. Fannie was a founding member of Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church in Pickerington, Ohio.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Louis M. Belek in 1999, daughter Margaret Belek, and 11 brothers and sisters. She was much loved and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.
