Sarah Jane Carney died at her home in Harrison township at 9:18 a.m., Monday, Nov. 6, after an illness of two years. The funeral was conducted from Poplar Grove church at 2 p.m., Wednesday, by Rev. Joseph and the remains were interred at the cemetery at that place. The deceased was born in Rush county, this state, August 4, 1832 and was 73 years, 3 months, and 2 days of age. She was married Sept. 7, 1851, in Marion county, to the late Martin Carney. The children surviving her are John S., Joseph E., David M., James T., Martin P., Amos M., and Moses A. Carney, and Mesdames Nancy E. Miller and Mary A. Ragsdale. Two brothers -- Joseph and John Morris, and one sister -- Mrs. Pleasant Houston, survive. She was a member of the Baptist church at Poplar Grove.

son, John Samuel Carney born 14 July 1854 married Caroline Street on 29 Dec 1883 in Madison County, Indiana. Sometime after 1900 they moved to Boone County, Indiana.
