Philologist, Historian. Born in La Coruña, Spain, he was a member of the Academy of History and the President of Royal Spanish Academy. Pidal is still widely considered a top authority on the Spanish Language and Epic Literature. He was elected Honorary President in the First International Congress of Hispanists, which took place in Oxford in 1952. Pidal was later sworn as Doctor Honoris Causa in the universities of Salamanca and Liège. His best known works include "Cantar del Mío Cid, Texto, Gramática y Vocabulario", "La Leyenda de los Siete Infantes de Lara", "Gramática Histórica Española", "El Romancero Español", and "Spaniards and Their History".
