Franklin David Wood, Sr., 76, of La Junta passed away on November 13, 2017, in Denver. He was born on January 1, 1941 in Rocky Ford to Jerry & Alta Grace (Trujillo) Wood. He married Judi Darlene Munson on August 6, 1966 in Las Vegas, NV and they made their home in La Junta. Born to this union were Kimberly, Tracey, Shawna, and David. Judi preceded him in death on June 26, 2010. He was the sixth child of twelve. Frank grew up in the canyon south of Rocky Ford before moving to Fowler to attend town school. He was a member of the 1957 Fowler State Championship Football team, graduating in 1959. In his spare time, Frank enjoyed saddle bronc riding. In 1960 Frank began his career with the Santa Fe Railroad in La Junta. During the lay offs at the Santa Fe, Frank was a deputy with the Otero County Sheriff's Office until being called back by the railroad. In 1974, Frank hung up his spurs and rope to judge at the rodeo. He was a devoted volunteer of the John Fisher Hose Company as a firefighter, EMT, and President of the Colorado State Firefighters Association. EMT, and President of the Colorado State Firefighters Association. Frank enjoyed bowling, softball, coaching, dancing, playing cards and singing. He was at every possible event for his children and grandchildren. Frank never knew a stranger, just striking up a conversation. He always had a smile and strong work ethic. After losing Judi to cancer in 2010, Frank was devastated. He reconnected with dear friend Clara Jones of Falcon. Frank is survived by his daugher & family, Kim (Chad) Frankmore - Hext of La Junta, Sammi Jo of Pueblo West, and Alexis of Canyon, TX; daughter, tracey (Shaun) Daniels, Ciera, Haley of Virginia Beach, VA & Justin (Laura Daniels of New River, NC; daughter Shawna Alford, Greyson, Jackson of San Diego, CA; son, David (Sandi) Wood, Cerina, Kyra, Brylee, & Doninic of Pueblo & Cassie (Zakk) Wenzel of Littleton; great grandchildren, Madison Vigil of Pueblo West and Levi Daniels of New River, NC and expecting baby Wenzel of Littleton; siblings, Cornelia (Eldon) Reynolds of Delta, CO; Mayme Phillips of Pueblo, Janice (Sandy) Morrow of Amarillo, TX; Bill (Vickie) Woood of La Junta; Carol (Jim) Harriman of Fowler; Mary (Bob) Noble of Fowler; Madeline Wood of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sisters, Jane Wood and Muriel Felfer; brothers, Jerry Wood, Jr. and Edward Wood; brother-in-laws, Ron Munson, Jerry Phillips and Mike Telfer; in-laws, Dale Munson and Mary Emrick; sister-in-law Linda.
