Born in Manila, Philippines, he was the son of Nicolas and Remedios Hernandez. He came to Canada in 1974. Reynaldo was employed with Abitibi until 2006, then joined Genivar Inc., working there until his retirement in 2012. Reynaldo loved times spent with his family and as he jokingly referred his four-legged daughter Chi Chi. Reynaldo took great pride in designing the Filipino-Canadian Association of Thunder Bay monument located at the Friendship Gardens. An avid fisherman, he enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. His other interests included photography and bowling with the Finlandia Club Bowling League.

He was predeceased by his father Nicolas Hernandez.

Reynaldo will be lovingly remembered by his wife Quy, sons, Jonathan and Jesse, mother Remedios Hernandez, brother Renato Hernandez and his wife Sonia and their sons Renz and Randy Hernandez and brother Ronnel Hernandez and his wife Ruth and sister Lourdes Douglas and her husband Steven.
