He was born in Halcomb, New Brunswick and was the son of the late Edward and Roberta [Matchett ] Stewart . He was raised in Sunny Corner and attended Meadows School and North & South Esk Regional High School. He enjoyed working in a Bush Camp as a Cookee prior to coming to Ontario. He joined Abitibi Consolidated in 1954 working as Barn Boss, on the river drives on Lake Nipigon, Tractor Operator, Tractor Trailer Driver on Log Hauls in Auden and later on the Tug “Abitibi “ on Lake Superior. He transferred to camp 230 on Spruce River Road. He spent one year during the ’50’s in Toronto working at a Pharmaceutical Company but returned to work with Abitibi and was employed by the company for over 40 years, retiring in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor [ Dunnett], of 52 years ; sisters - Elizabeth Dunnett [ Weldon ] ; Lynn Hogan [ Louis ] ; brothers - Carman Stewart [ Mary Agnes ] ; Hayward Stewart [ Thelma ] ; and Byron Stewart , all of New Brunswick and a number of nieces & nephews ; son-in-law Doug Steen & Family of Thunder Bay and Winnipeg and sister-in-law Corinne Stewart & Family of Thunder Bay. He was predeceased by his parents, daughter Frances Anne Steen, brother Frank of Thunder Bay; sister and brother-in-law Ruth and Hugh Tweedie; sister-in-law Catherine Stewart and nephew Stewart Dunnett of New Brunswick.

He was a member of the Thunder Bay Appaloosa Horse Club and the Appaloosa Horse Club of Canada, and during his working years was a member of Local 2693 Lumber and Sawmill Workers Union. He particularly enjoyed his Golf Games with his daughter Fran - her Father’s Day Gift to him for several years following his retirement.
