He attended a one room school house from grades one through eight and graduated from Alma High School in Alma, Wisconsin. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
On September 24, 1966 he married Karen Larsen in Cream, Wisconsin. John taught Industrial Arts and coached basketball in Hayward, Wisconsin, Mazeppa, Minnesota and Elk Mound, Wisconsin. In 1980 the family moved to La Crosse where John served as an insurance agent for Aid Association for Lutheran’s for 20 years until his retirement.
John was an active member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, cards, spending time in the kitchen, baking, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters; Kristi (Mark) Sands, Kimberly (Dan) Schwabenbauer, Kirsten Allphin and Jill Lynn; son, Kyle (Ann) Brandt; 10 grandchildren; sisters: Lucille (Carl) Cramer Dorothy (David) Raney and Diane (Winslow) Grandstand.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Norman Blasing.
