Two of the Houses at Cranbrook School, Allan Boys and Allan Girls, are named after Rev. ALLAN, recognizing his contribution as Headmaster from 1851 to 1866 in reestablishing the reputation and fortunes of the School. He is buried under a yew tree in the churchyard. 'Q.E.G.S.' is the abbreviation for Queen Elizabeth Grammar School.

Here lieth John Lloyd Allan, Clerk, M.A.,Headmaster of Queen Elizabeth's
Grammar School Cranbrook. Born August 30th 1817. Died March 20 1866 Also Annie, his wife, who died at Kensington January 9th 1892
having survived him for nearly 26 years.
