Galena, Kan., April 25. — Mrs. Sadie Carter, 80 years old, a resident of Quaker Valley west of Galena for more than 60 years, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Little, 2222 Empire street, in Joplin.

Mrs. Carter was born in Lyon county, Kansas. She came to this county with her parents who were among a group of early Quaker settlers in the Spring river valley west of Galena, which is known as Quaker Valley. Her father, who was a missionary, established a school for the Indians in that locality. Mrs. Carter was a teacher and an ordained Quaker minister. She wrote a book of poems, which was published, and also wrote a number of articles on the early days in the Quaker Valley settlement.

Surviving, besides her daughter, are a brother, Wester Stanley of Minnesota, and a niece, Mrs. Susie Stanley of Joplin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Friends church in Riverton, with the Rev. John Howard, pastor, in charge. The Rev. T. R. Wade of Galena will assist. Burial will be in the Galena cemetery. The body will lie in state at the Boice funeral chapel here until 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon, when it will be taken to the Friends church at Riverton to lie in state until the funeral hour.

Funeral arrangements are in charge of the Boice Undertaking Company.

Galena, Kan., April 26.—Funeral services for Mrs. Sadie Carter, 80 years old, pioneer resident of Quaker Valley, west of Galena, who died yesterday morning at the home of her daughter in Joplin, will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Friends church in Riverton. The Rev. John Howard, pastor, will be in charge. He will be assisted by the Rev. T. R. Wade of Galena. Burial will be in the Galena cemetery.
