Frances L. (Butler) Powell, age 90, passed away on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, in Ardmore, Okla. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 10, 2018, in The Chapel at Griffin ~ Hillcrest with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating. Private interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park of Ardmore.

Frances was born on her family’s homestead at Buckhorn Creek in Murray County, Okla., on March 15, 1928, to Francis Butler and Ruby (Renegar) Butler. She attended and graduated from Ardmore High School. She began working at Kress Department Store at the age of 16. When Frances started dating Richard it was on the condition that she would go out with him to the Saturday Preview if Richard would take her to church on Sunday. We are thankful for her decision to follow Jesus, and her influence on the family for generations to come. Frances and Richard A. Powell married on August 11, 1946, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ardmore. She was a homemaker, and served as a Bluebird and Camp Fire leader. After her children were in school, she worked at Montgomery Wards then as a rural mail carrier until her retirement. She loved to play games and taught us to follow the rules and play hard to win. She was a member of Carter County Home Extension Club and entered something in the Carter County Fair every year, including this year, winning many Blue Ribbons. She attended Senior lunches at Lone Grove Senior Citizens Center. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Ardmore.

She was preceded in death by her Father, husband, Richard and one sister, Helen Binderim and one brother, Earl Butler.

Frances is survived by her 108 year old mother, Ruby Beasley, sons: Rick Powell and wife, Janise, of Plano, Texas, and Tommy Powell, of Ardmore, daughter, Diane Curtis and husband, Mike, of Portland, Oregon, seven grandchildren: Amber Lee and husband, Stephen, of Plano, Texas, Heather Powell of Allen, Texas, Tyler Densmore and husband, Shane, of Albuquerque, NM, Jordan Powell and wife, Amber, of Providence Village, Texas, Lindsay Hodson and husband, David, of Portland, Oregon, Chris Powell and wife, Jessica, of Ardmore, and Adam Powell and wife, Samantha, of Cheyenne, WY, and eight great-grandchildren.
