Iva Ruth Stevens McDaniel, age 97, of Slaton Hollow Road, Grafton, WV, was welcomed by God into his heavenly kingdom on the evening of November 6, 2018.

Born, December 19, 1920 in Grafton, she was the middle child of Thomas Alva Stevens and Ina Poe Stevens. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jo McDaniel Meadows (David), of Clarksburg, WV and three granddaughters, Angela Kay Brutto Latta (Doug), who she raised, of Grafton, WV, Shelley Elaine Meadows Relayson (Morris) of Lafitte, LA and Brandi Lea Meadows Regan (Matt) also of Lafitte, LA. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, Sophia Relayson, Louis “Jay” Latta, Eden Regan, Noah Relayson and Aislinn Regan, and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was a graduate of Grafton High School in 1939. She was employed at Hazel Atlas and Baby World where she was a proud union member. She gave up her employment to become a full-time caregiver to her disabled husband, her elderly mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s, as well as three generations of her immediate and extended family. There was always love, along with a good meal, waiting at Aunt Ruth’s house. She loved working in her garden, canning her harvest and sharing the fruits of her hard work with others. Ruth also enjoyed singing hymns, sewing and square dances. A Baptist by faith, she was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church in Fairmont, WV.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, William McDaniel, in 1974, her daughter Connie A. McDaniel Brutto in 1966 and Pastor Garry W. McDaniel in 2008. Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Edna Stevens Fast, Viola Lynch, Maxine Perrone and Frances Stansberry; four brothers Alva Stevens, Ronald Stevens and his twin Donald Stevens (who died in infancy) and Brennis Stevens. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

The family would like to thank Rosewood Center of Grafton for the loving care that they have provided Ruth for the last seven years. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Friends may call at Bartlett Funeral Home, 202 McGraw Ave. on Sunday, November 11, 2018 from 11:00AM until time of services at 2:00PM with Pastor David Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at Woodsdale Memorial Park.
