John Hardy Funkhouser, only son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Funkhouser, was born near Oneida, August 24, 1900. At the age of 10 years he moved with his parents, and sisters to the family home a half mile east of Baker. Here he spent most of his school days and grew to manhood. He departed this life in the early morning of September 14, 1921, having attained the age of 21 years, 21 days. He became a Christian, united with the Methodist church at Baker in 1912, later removed his membership to the Methodist church at Willis. He preceded to the great beyond by a sister, Dorothy, who died two years ago. He is survived by his father and mother and the following sisters: Margaret, Alma, Mary, Lucy, Ruth and Grace and a host of friends and relatives who know his quiet life, will remember him kindly. The devotion and respect shown by him for his parents and sisters was marked and beautiful. During his last illness his thoughts were always for them. He was a clean, upright Christian young man. Altho young in years his life was as complete, the measure he gave as full as one who had lived out his three score years and ten. The funeral services were held at the Baker church Friday afternoon, September 16, at 1 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Mr. Johnston, of Powhattan. The quartet of Powhattan church sang "Abide with Me," "In That City" and "Going "Down the Valley." The body bearers were John and Edgar Sawyer, Julius Gigstad, Ed and Carl Villard, Chris Harvey. Burial was made in Moray cemetery.
