Sheboygan Falls - Loretta Edna (Klinger) Schmitt, 93, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away peacefully on November 3rd, 2018 under the loving care of the staff at the Sheboygan Senior Community where she lived for the past three years. She now enters her Lord's eternal home, reunited with family, friends and her loving husband, Donald.

She was born in the Village of Wauzeka on September 5, 1925. Spending a year of her young life in a sanitorium because of tuberculosis, Loretta always felt blessed to be the first of her family to go to college, receiving her teaching certificate in Elementary Education form the State Teachers College at Platteville (UW-Platteville) in 1947. Little did she know that her love of teaching would bring her to Sheboygan for her first teaching job and to find her future husband and love of her life, Donald Schmitt, who she married in June of 1951.

Loretta was a fourth-grade elementary school teacher at Grant Elementary School in Sheboygan, WI from 1947-1956. She loved teaching and the many students she taught held a very special place in her heart even after she retired from teaching. Loretta brought her love of teaching out of the classroom and in to her community, through the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, Maywood Environmental Park and many other organizations where she continued to have a very positive impact on the area youth. She was a longtime faithful member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where she served her church in various ways throughout her life. She was a lifetime member of the AAUW Sheboygan Branch and received the honor of becoming a Named Gift Honoree.

Loretta worked alongside her husband and sons at Jos. Schmitt & Sons Construction Co. from 1963-2008 and Professional Door Systems, Inc. from 1986-1995, providing special guidance and support after Donald's passing in 1986. Loretta took great joy in seeing her husband's legacy live on with her sons and their continued success and community involvement of the fourth-generation family construction company.

She is survived by her two sons, Steven J. Schmitt (Neeltje Van Dam Schmitt) and Reed J. Schmitt (Terese Case Schmitt). And by her grandchildren, Lauren R. Schmitt, Jessica A Schmitt-Reynolds (Benjamin L. Reynolds), Ryan J, Schmitt, Neil R. Schmitt, Christine T. Schmitt & Erin M. Schmitt as well as a number of nieces and nephews that have been such an important part of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald R. Schmitt. And by her parents, Roy Klinger and Ethel (Culver) Klinger; siblings, Earl Fay Klinger, Virgil Le Roy Klinger, Kermit Ivan Klinger, Amy Bernice Smith, Leona Mae (Larson) Schoonover, Vivian Alta Reed, Glennie Marie (McDowell) Rewey, & Maxine Cook.

A funeral service to celebrate Loretta's life will be held at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 623 Ontario Ave., Sheboygan on Sunday, November 11, 2018. The family will greet family and friends from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m.

The Reinbold-Novak Funeral Home of Sheboygan is assisting the Schmitt Family with arrangements. A private entombment will take place on Monday at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler.
