Brenda Lee Shavers-Terrell, age 56, of Richmond, VA, passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018, in Richmond at the H.H. McGuire VA Medical Center.

She was born on January 12, 1962, in State Line, Mississippi, to Melvin Raine and Emma Shavers.

Brenda was a vibrant woman who loved life and accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Moments of Blessing Church of Sacramento, California. She attended Burbank Elementary School and Burbank High School in Sacramento, CA, before moving to Oklahoma City where she was a member of the OKC Lady All Stars softball team, the first black co-ed team in Oklahoma. She played a mean 2nd base and everyone knew nothing was getting past her! In 1987,

Brenda enlisted in the US Army in 1987. She served in war at Desert Storm/Desert Shield. Brenda was a proud member of the Army's Airborne Division, being one of a few females to achieve such a prestigious accomplishment. In 1999, while stationed at Ft. Benning, GA, she attended Troy State University where she obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

Family and friends were Brenda's love and joy. She spent many Thanksgiving holidays with her family and friends in Oklahoma City, OK, always bringing her old softball team together to reminisce about her playing days. She loved cooking and trying new recipes, entertaining, and frequently hosted dinner gatherings at her home. Brenda spent her time traveling with her friend Gee. Benda never met a stranger and made many lifelong friends along the way. Brenda loved music, often being the first one on the dance floor and always making sure everyone was having a great time. She loved fashion and was known for her fashion statements and hair styles (especially hairstyles). She was affectionately known for her contagious smile that would light up a room and melt your heart.

Brenda is preceded in death by her mother and 1 sister, Barbara.

She is survived by her longtime friend, Rosalinda Gutierrez (Gee); her father Melvin (Diane) Raine; 2 sisters, Katie Shavers, and Debra Breashears; 1 brother, Shawn (Lee) Raine; her best friend of 38 years, Lillian Gordon; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of loving, caring friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Draucker Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, November 5th, at 10:00 a.m., with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Burial will be in the Big Springs cemetery, with Military Honors.

Draucker Funeral Home of Ogallala has been entrusted with arrangements.
