Mary Palmer Smallwood

JANUARY 9, 1921 – NOVEMBER 7, 2018

A celebration of her Life will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at Lizella Baptist Church. Burial will be in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Chris Minton officiating. The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service. While flowers will be accepted, those who wish, may make a memorial contribution to the Lizella Baptist Church Building Fund, 2950 S. Lizella Road, Lizella, GA 31052.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Harold Maynard, Joe Defore, Jimmy Sharp, and Bill Sanders.

Mrs. Smallwood was born in Macon to the late W.C. Palmer and Naomi Rustin Palmer and lived in Macon all her life. She retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Mary was a member of Lizella Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School Teacher and was very active in many areas of the church. She also worked with the Senior Adult Choir and was a past president of the Golden Fellowship. She was an accomplished church musician for more than 60 years, 35 of which were at Lizella Baptist Church. Mary played for many weddings and funerals. Through the years she served in several Baptist churches in the Macon Baptist Association. She loved music and always enjoyed playing and sharing her talents with others.

She was the devoted wife of 55 years to her late husband William Joe Smallwood. She was preceded in death by one son, Clarence William (Billy) Smallwood and grandson, William Bryant (Billy) Smallwood (#71103894), sister, Louise Palmer Davis, sister, Helen Palmer Kilzer.

She is survived by one son, Barry (Donna) Smallwood of Macon, two granddaughters, Holly (Shawn) Reynolds of Braselton, GA, and Kristi (Jonathon) Wagner of Hoschton, GA, step grandson, Chase (Connie) Brown of Cokeburg, PA. She is also survived by four great grandsons, Hudson, Maddox, and Braxton Reynolds of Braselton, Kipton Wagner of Hoschton, two step great granddaughters, Caroline and Catherine Brown of Cokeburg, and several nieces and nephews.
